Study in California: mercury in fog at the coast

In case you didn't see it in yesterday's BDN:

Folks in New Brunswick looked at mercury in fog several years ago as well, and concluded the same basic thing: coastal areas could be especially prone to Hg because of Hg-enriched fog.

The same issue came up in the 1980s, when fog at Bar Harbor was the most acidic of all sites, published in a paper in Nature (Weathers et al., here: )

It's neat to see science progress this way - the work of Weathers et al. helped move fog science (and any scientific interest in fog chemistry) forward, which probably helped lead to some of this new work.

Standing on the shoulders of giants, indeed.
