Introduction to the Data Literacy Project
This Acadia Learning project is in active development. If you would like to be involved with this project's development, or if you have questions about using this project in your classroom please contact Bill or Molly.
Making sense of data requires understanding of which data are important for the question at hand, and then organizing, summarizing and displaying those data so that they tell a meaningful story. The Data Literacy Project supports professional development to ensure that teachers can guide their students in making sense of data in an increasingly data-driven world.
The Project has three components:
- Nurture an understanding of pedagogical content knowledge about data literacy
- Develop a professional learning community in support of ongoing professional development in data literacy
- Develop teaching materials and assessment tools that support instruction in data literacy; and that can be used to identify areas where students need instruction, practice, and correction of misunderstandings.
