Introduction to Variability
Instructional and practice activities in this section are designed to help students:
1. Expect data in the real world to be variable, and understand that it is the work of scientists to describe, understand, and attempt to explain that variability
2. Learn how to display variability in data using frequency plots (dot plots, box and whisker plots, or histograms)
3. Describe variability in data using basic statistical language (range, distribution shape, and measure of center (mean, median, or modes)
